Information for visitors to Rathlin.
The sea is always cooler than the land, so even if it is very warm in Ballycastle, there is likely to be a cool breeze when crossing the sea in the ferry.
Bring something warm to wear, such as a
fleece, a roll-up plastic mac can also be useful.
If you are going to do some walking, wear good strong shoes, Rathlin is rural, not town,
I remember meeting two young women a couple of miles from the harbour, they were dressed for the city, complete with high heels, they asked me was it far to the shopping centre, Sadly, I had to inform them that we do not have a shopping centre. The public roads are reasonably good, surfaced with tarmac, except for the last mile towards the West Lighthouse, and the Rue Lighthouse, which are loose gravel.
A mini-bus leaves the harbour regularly for tours of the island.
